're getting heavier showers up and down 101 for the third time. south of santa rosa. youngville getting heavy rain and up toward clear lake getting heavy rain. daly city, san francisco out toward the airport. richland, oakland, hayward out to san san san ramon and danville. when you wake up on sunday morning it will be windy with urban and street flooding likely. let's take about how much rain you're looking for. at least an inch and a half to 2 inches of rain. that's most of the bay area. that's why the napa river and flood river are under flood warnings with a flash flood for the north bay and the coast and the mountains where we have a wind advisory because tonight with the rain it's going to be windy. win gusts 30 to 35 miles per hour. there's high deaf doppler. the rain is here and it's going to be with us for a while. we'll talk about when the mess will finally move o out and have your full extended forecast in a few minutes. >>> as paul mentioned a flood warning has been issued for the napa river. it's expected above flood levels and cbs5 don knapp is in napa where people are preparing

in a second. our dublin cam, it's still cloudy out there. many of you didn't hit 60 inland. santa rosa around 53. it didn't rain which is rare. it has rained in the bay area. 12 of the past 20 days. but now we are in a dry pattern. hi-def doppler no rainfall on it nor do we expect any for the next five days. i do expect it to be chilly tonight. mid-40s for free. low 40s in napa. we'll be talking about fog. 40s in fremont. cloud cover all day long in the central valley. when that low cloud cover moves into the bay area we call it tule fog and we'll see that once again tonight. that's the source of our low cloud cover during the day. it will be the source of our fog coming up tomorrow morning. so fog and low cloud cover especially inland closer to the central valley coming up tomorrow morning. once that fog burns off we get back to high pressure. high pressure will be here for five straight days will be sunny and dry through the week and i know you have a long christmas or holiday shopping list. you will have ample opportunity to get outside on saturday and sunday. whether it's the indoor mall

activist in a sense. that was his epiphany, his rosa parks moment. we'll talk more about that after this break. >> welcome back to mosaic. with me is father charles who is a priest in the arch diocese but also is talking to us today today. as we finished the last segment we talked about how his social activism became real in his life because he felt the discrimination. would you say a few words about his spirituality? i think one of the things i remember learning about gappedy is i always had this image of him as a man of great peace, a man who is very centered. so where did that peace come from? is this a religious thing with him? >> it was based on his religious belief. he was a very deep and arresteddent follower of hinduism which spirituality came to him from his own mother. when he watched his mother doing all kinds of fasting and penances it was great inspiration for him. he practiced some of those. he grew into those. he read this famous text, the most sacred text for hindus. he derived a lot of his principals from there. also he read the bible. >> i see. >> the sermon on the

jose. 62 san francisco. 61 santa rosa. maybe one to two inches of rains but right now looks like no flooding expected from the next storm. back to you. >> but it is acomin'. thank you. >>> 5:05. work is ongoing to fix the gaping hole in a road in lafayette. a portion of mountain view drive caved in during the storm over the weekend and now residents going to deal with a lot of construction activity probably for months to come. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in lafayette to show us the status of some of the repair work. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. behind me is some of that heavy equipment being used to repair the road and as you can imagine there is a lot of work to be done. east bay m.u.d., pg&e, sanitation crews and city official have all been out here to the scene of this giant sinkhole. so far they have been clearing debris while making sure residents can still get gas and water service. those lines were damaged. they have had to temporarily run some of the lines above ground. this sinkhole is 80 feet long, 40 feet wide and 15 feet deep. it opened up on sunda

. will not exacerbate any flooding problems. it's just going to be your garden variety rainfall. that's it. santa rosa tonight 47. napa 47. oakland down to 51. you will wake up tomorrow morning to 49 in redwood city and mountain view, san jose 50. a little above normal because of the cloud cover that's moving in. so there is another weather system heading to the bay area. there is also juice in the atmosphere and there's an area of high pressure that's sendingle storm track just far enough to the north that the heavier rainfall will move into far northern california and we are just going to get some light to moderate rainfall. it's a subtle change but enough of a change to alleviate flooding concerns around here in the bay area. so we have a storm system moving by tomorrow. we'll have a front dragging through but any heavy rainfall will likely stay away. you're just going to get plain old rainfall. that's it. on-and-off rain throughout the day. flooding not a concern. this is the long- range outlook. the entire west coast from oregon to mexico is forecast to be drier than normal so you want some dry w

weather camera towards a very foggy, low 60s in santa rosa. we should anticipate fog in the evening hours still lingering mist around down san jose. that's a pretty view. 26 degrees westerlies at 8 miles per hour, 62 degrees. this evening just a few scattered stray showers for the most part beginning our drying trend. and thursday, it will turn sunny by the afternoon hours. the extended forecast i think you will enjoy the seven-day forecast. first mild with the clouds into the 50s and 40s. it looks like this area of low pressure really began to fall apart at the seams once it banged up across the northwestern section of the state of california. and in fact, little snow is to be found in the high sierra. we had a lot of warmer air mass associated with this. okay. let's put this into gear. it's our futurecast. placing the rain showers out of here. notice that right there tomorrow morning's commute. a drying trend begins. it will be sunny and bright and temperatures actually spot on for this time of the year. so what does that mean for tomorrow's raider game hosting the broncos at 5 p.m.? 58
you'll see about 60 and partly cloudy skies in santa rosa, 59 in san francisco and 59 also in daly city. next couple of days, we'll keep those temperatures fairly leveled but the latter part of the weekend that ridge builds in. we may see that offshore wind and that could training those temperatures well up into the 60s, even mid-60s as we head in toward monday and tuesday. and no rain, gianna. a little quieter for you, right? >> yeah. that is good news, lawrence. we don't have a lot going on, on the freeways as far as accidents. really the only thing you want to look out for is construction. we have a few projects to report. northbound 101, three lanes are shut down until 5:00 for roadwork through there. we have some delays in and around that area. it's near 92. also as you work your way on the san mateo bridge headed towards the peninsula, stop and go conditions as well due to the roadwork through there. 880 not showing problems through hayward. eastbound 4 at loveridge roadwork full freeway closure should be wrapped up before 6:00. no delays though. looks like traffic is i. >>
above average. santa rosa already fallen into the low 50s. that's gown to be one of the coldest locations across the bay area tonight. with 37 degrees in the offing there. otherwise upper 30s from napa a little bit colder than that in glen ellen. martinez and american canyon all in the upper 30s as well and then the eastern portion of the district, 30s will be common and upper 30s and low 40s around the peninsula. 41-degrees in downtown san jose. tonight all the clouds out there will gradually begin to break up but we will see some pockets of fog in throughout the northern portion of the bay area in the valleys as well as the delta. otherwise tomorrow, sunny. breezy. and warmer. and the extended forecast calls for rain to return right here to the bay area by midweek. we will have that seven day forecast coming up but right now all those clouds. look at this right here. this is an area of low pressure to the north of the bay area. those clouds are renegade clouds. drifting away if the main system providing the rain showers around the pacific northwest. and then the snow in the ca
, 62 santa rosa. so this probably is it for the rain for some time as we'll see high pressure trying to build back into the bay area. dry weather on thursday and friday and dry through the weekend too, gianna. >> well, that is good news because this rain is making a mess of our morning commute. we have a handledful of accidents to report this morning so if you are heading out the door give yourself some extra time. the first trouble spot is a traffic alert south 101 at silver avenue the right lane closed as they clear the road. we are seeing a bit of a backup as well so slow and go conditions in that area. use 280 at an alternate instead. elsewhere if you are work your way westbound 580 much better news. that traffic alert at lakeshore has now been cleared out of the road. traffic still sluggish as a result. also west 80 at san pablo dam road they have this accident over to the right shoulder but check this out. some yellow and red there on our sensors so traffic is very slow and go. in fact, we're seeing delays all the way back from at least highway 4 at this point. you're going to
